What We Do

About our Programs

The problem of absentee, uninvolved fathers in Las Vegas, Nevada is acute. Yet, there currently are no programs in Clark County that adequately address the epidemic of absentee fathers. Even more, there currently are no programs that provide a bridge to reunification for fathers who are denied or have limited access to their children because of legal circumstances. TFP provides an avenue through which fathers can fulfill their obligations with the court while working on developing the tools and skills necessary to remain engaged in their children’s life. Thus, our Fatherhood Project has great potential for mitigating the problem by identifying and providing comprehensive supports to fathers who demonstrate a high level of motivation to become committed, supportive parents who are fully involved their children’s lives.
Participants in the program will be identified by community partners and admitted upon a referral basis only. Proposed referring partners may include:

Program Services Offered

Program services offered: “The Fatherhood Project” (TFP) offers case management, education, advocacy, and mentorship (support) to fathers who have a desire to maintain an active role in the lives of their children. All components of the program will be coordinated by “The Fatherhood Project.” The Program Design consists of a 3-Phase holistic approach:

Education

Upon successful completion of an Intake Assessment, all fathers are assigned a Case Manager who provides resource referrals and enrolls in a 10-Week workshop that addresses a myriad of essential parenting, social and life skills.

Mentorship

Upon completion of the 10-Week workshop, fathers (program participants) are assigned a Mentor to provide encouragement and social skill support for a minimum of 1 year.

Family Engagement

The Father, Case Manager, and Mentor jointly develop and implement a plan for the father to reunify with children they have lost contact with or to build stronger, healthier bonds and greater frequency and consistency of contact in currently existing relationships with their children.

Training

The program is designed to provide wraparound services to help fathers remove barriers, develop skills, and understand their value in the family system. Upon acceptance into the program, participants will receive a comprehensive assessment to identify current needs, barriers, and conditions. Participants will be assessed and supported with psychosocial needs, desired participation in their child’s life and current social determinants. For this project, social determinants will include factors such as: socioeconomic status; education; neighborhood and physical environment; employment; and social support network.
